Good Enough.

Good enough is done. Perfectionism has the high price of likely never getting started.

Are you an overthinker?

Are you a procrastinator?

Do you find yourself thinking about ideas but never getting started?

Do you think about an idea so long that it becomes too big to complete?

When seeking to be great or perfect in every endeavor, we set an impossibly high bar for ourselves, and often the price is never getting started.

For this week’s newsletter, we wanted to challenge you to look at where perfectionism shows up for you. Where do you see yourself holding back or overthinking? Maybe you are worried about looking silly or not being good enough. The reality is anything that has been done for the first time likely looked weird or unusual to everyone else.

Here are some thoughts to consider when those doubts creep in:

  • “The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.” Sylvia Plath

  • “One of the ego’s favorite paths of resistance is to fill you with doubt.” Ram Dass

  • “Willpower is the key to success. Successful people strive no matter what they feel by applying their will to overcome apathy, doubt or fear.” Dan Millman

  • “Successful people have fear, successful people have doubts, and successful people have worries. They just don’t let these feelings stop them.” T. Harv Eker

  • “If you are going to doubt anything in life, doubt your own limitations.” Dan Brule

When we have the courage to get started, let go of our self-doubt, and worry about what others may think, we allow ourselves to step into our greatness.

You’ll never know what you can do until you let go and accept that the “first” of any of your endeavors will be bad. Go do it anyway, and get better.

When we have the courage to make mediocre, messy things it leads to the most brilliant things.

Well, that’s interesting…

I recently discovered a very entertaining podcast, Normal Gossip. It is amusing to listen to but also a great example of storytelling. I listened to a bonus episode that demonstrated how things can go very wrong in the game of “telephone” and how a story can ultimately morph with only a few steps removed from the origin.

It makes you wonder, for every story you’ve heard, how much of it is true?
