New Year, More You
We are now officially live!
Over the past several weeks we have been hard at work evolving from Learning to Lead to The Leadership Mastery Network (LMN). We're embarking on a new chapter, leveraging the learnings over the past two years along with new ambitions to invest in our community and leaders everywhere.
This is Kelly White, your editor this week, and I am usually the one playing with the backend setup. I’ve been figuring out a lot as I go and will share some insights into the tech side in future newsletters for those that are interested.
As this is the first newsletter for LMN and the start of a new year, many of us may still be in the new year resolution frame of mind. I like resolutions because it’s a great forcing function to spend time reflecting on the past, and gaining clarity on where I want to go next, both near- and long-term.
Some of my resolutions or goals this year are similar to last year. The top 4 are:
Read more with a goal to read 1 book per month: I’m setting this goal again because I spend a lot of time reading newsletters and listening to podcasts (there’s a list below of my favorite newsletters and podcasts), and if I’m honest I am great at starting books, but not finishing them. In 2022 I did NOT achieve this goal, but did complete 8, not bad all things considered (if you want to know what I read in 2022 comment below). So this year I’m shooting for 12 again, and am feeling optimistic I can do it! If you want to join me on this challenge reply or comment on the website, and I’ll continue to post progress here as well as on our LinkedIn page with #LMNBookChallenge 📚
Morning Routines: This is a goal I established during the pandemic when I felt like my life had been taken over with my work in my house 24/7. I have been pretty consistent overall, but not all goals need to be new, they can simply be reinforced as priorities to re-commit to. My morning routine consists of Journaling, Yoga, Spiritual Practices, and Intention Setting for the Day (for me priorities and how I want to feel) 🌅 I posted a poll on LinkedIn recently to ask what your morning routines are. If you didn’t respond to that poll, let me know what your routines are (reply or comment on the website).
Pay It Forward: I have been spending more time lately mentoring leaders at all levels. It is always rewarding and I learn a lot from the experience. As Oprah says, I am an introvert who extroverts well, so I tend to avoid settings where I have to lean into the extroverted networking and social scenes. However, this year I’m setting a goal to put myself out there more, share my experiences, and pay it forward since I have been so fortunate to have others invest in me. I am starting paid mentorship sessions here and will be sharing more on the events I attend on a wide variety of topics. If you want to join my network or have suggestions on events or mentorship forums reach out to me via email, LinkedIn, reply or comment below 🤝
Adventure: I like to have a motto for the year which I will share in a future post, but last year my motto was “Do what makes your soul grow” from Kurt Vonnegut. Even as I choose a new motto, I will keep the spirit of this one alive through more adventures and travel. I love to travel and will be creating another space to share more about my adventures, past, present, and future. If you are interested in following along send me an email and I will notify you when it is live (it will be soon as I already have a few adventures lined up, including an overdue visit to Omega Mart the well-known immersive experience from Meow Wolf.) 🌎
I’d love to know how you are approaching the new year, reply or share in the comments:
What are your new year resolutions this year or do you opt out of the practice?
What are the goals and commitments you are making for you this year?
How can we at LMN help you on your leadership journey?
That’s all for this week. Tamara White will be your newsletter host next week so be sure to subscribe, and if you think someone might enjoy or find our resources helpful, consider sharing it with them.
And one more big welcome to our new website!
