Lessons from TEDWomen 2023

Inspiration, Quotes, and Takeaways

Last week, the Leadership Mastery Network team attended TEDWomen 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia. We came away more informed, inspired and fired up to continue our mission to invest in leaders everywhere.

We wanted to share lessons and takeaways for this week’s newsletter that sparked our minds and left an impression.

Here are a few:

  • We do not inherit the land from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.

  • Be humble enough to admit what you don’t know.

  • Traditions repeat in time until someone or something interrupts them.

  • Find and claim your liberated territory to thrive as a person - a place to create what you want, a space where you feel the most courageous to have bad ideas, to let your mind be free to have bad ideas.

  • Unfold your mental arms and be open to hearing and learning something new.

  • Joy = Love Ignited in Action

  • Generosity makes you feel seen.

  • The world can be smaller when we exchange ideas.

  • Adapt your style to what the situation and person needs - personalize your leadership and become multilingual in the language of leadership.

  • In the quest to attain more materials and wealth, how much is enough?

  • Our biggest regrets are not our failures but the possibilities and chances we didn’t experience because we didn’t believe we could do it.

  • Remove the mask and armor you wear to protect yourself and introduce yourself to your best self, the real you.

  • Are you using achievement to anesthetize feelings like guilt, shame, or regret?

  • By blocking bad feelings, you are also muting all the good feelings.

  • You cannot have joy without pain, happiness without sadness, bravery without fear.

  • Interview for “add-in” skill - what’s missing from your culture that you need to add. Shifts culture from focusing on fitting into what’s missing

  • Never be too afraid to tell your story.

  • Before a dream is realized, tests will come to prepare us to master those lessons for the next level.

  • Those who do not move do not notice their chains.

  • You are not meant to be one thing.

  • Through the strangeness of life, the sourness of life, Live

  • Go through the door and leave the door stop for others to come after you. Pay it forward.

A few closing themes from the event:

  • Sharing our stories makes us feel less alone when we realize others are experiencing similar levels; our connection and sharing allow us to grow together.

  • There is always hope, no matter how dark a situation or how deep the pain is.

We can’t recommend the events from the TED team enough. We hope you find a way to invest in yourself through classes, reading (thank you for reading this newsletter), or attending an event to meet and connect with others.

We hope you begin this week inspired and have more courage to believe in yourself.

DO/ LEAD/

Real-world leadership is very different from all that the media would have us believe. Forget the dashing hero, true leadership is typically understated. It’s the myriad small things that make the big things possible. And, we can all do it.”

The DO series group always creates compelling, thought provoking content. They offer workshops, events, as well as a series of books. This month we are featuring their book on Leadership
